Anyone willing to give a thoughtful, honest, yet respectful, critique is welcome. Many topics, genres and forms are welcome (Ex. chapter of a novel, short story, play, poem, article, essay, etc.). While publishing is a worthy goal, the focus of this group is helping writers fine tune works, which either have literary value or are otherwise substantive (i.e. scholarly). All such works are welcome. Those concerned with poverty, and / or human and animal rights and welfare, and similar issues (i …
We believe in the whole writing process, not just the finished product. We see writing as a tool for emotional well-being, self-discovery, self-expression and inspiration. We focus on how writing can be used for emotional well-being and how to launch a successful career as a writer. Whether you love to journal or want to take your writing to the next level, this writing circle is for you. Begin your writing journey today and join now.
First and foremost: We are not a critique group. We are not a workshop group. We are a group of writers who get together to...just write. This is a group that meets to WRITE, to socialize, and to offer encouragement and inspiration to others as we practice our craft. We're focused on the process, not the product. Writing can be a solitary activity...but it doesn't have to be. This is a group where the focus is actually on DOING the work as opposed to critiquing already finished works. I found s …

We like reading compelling books on feats of science, technology and engineering derring-do! If you love reading about the amazing lives of radical inventors, laboratory wizards, eccentric investigators, audacious builders and their triumphs and tragedies, then you've found your club! We'll pick out a book, devour it cover-to-cover, and then meetup to discuss what we really liked about it. We'll pick different meeting places in or around Chicago, so everyone's welcome!
I'm a 30-something guy who likes to read mostly nonfiction. If you're a nonfiction reader like me this is for you! I like history, science, sports, true crime and travel narratives, but am willing to be flexible.
Acorn Public Library has started a new nonfiction book club! Beginning October 4, the Barcodes will meet the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at Oliver's in Oak Forest (6150 159th Street). Our first selection is Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. You don't have to be an Acorn cardholder to sign up for this club, but you do need to be excited about engaging with other readers in a fun and casual environment! You must be 21 or over to join this group. …

This group is in its founding stage. I (Justin) am the founder and intend for this group to serve people who love to read and share knowledge, especially nonfiction works. I have found that most book meetups explore fiction, which is fine, but I feel that we lovers of nonfiction are not well represented. I intend for this group to serve people of West Michigan and northern Indiana, from South Bend to Kalamazoo.
What is Off Campus Writers’ Workshop? Ever since 1946, OCWW has encouraged and inspired Chicago-area writers in developing their writing avocations. OCWW meets every Thursday morning from September to May. A variety of speakers will elevate your writing technique with a diversity of topics, amongst which can be genre fiction, nonfiction, children’s lit, contemporary simmerings of romance fiction, poetry, publishing and the implication of ebooks. Here, you will achieve your individual writing goa …
We hope to critique each other's drafts of all sorts in a mutually supportive and awesome environment. This group is invite-only to ensure that we stay tiny (hence the name). We meet about twice a month and share drafts to read a few days in advance. We're into all sorts of writing styles, from humorous to serious to abstract. Many of us are sex-positive feminists; if you're not down with that please don't apply.
